What technical changes are needed for agentOS Branded Emails?
Depending on your chosen option, you'll need to update your MX Record and/or add a TXT Record to your domain's DNS settings.
Setting up agentOS Branded Emails requires technical changes to your domain's DNS records. The specific changes depend on which service option you choose.
Understanding the technical terminology
If you're unfamiliar with DNS records and domain management, we strongly advise consulting with your IT administrator or your domain host's support knowledge base before making changes.
Send & Receive option - Two changes required:
1. MX Record update
The MX (Mail Exchange) Record tells other mail servers where to deliver emails sent to your domain.
Updating your MX Record to point to the agentOS mail server means that any emails sent to your custom email addresses will be routed into agentOS (your Inbox).
2. TXT Record addition
agentOS uses Amazon SES (Amazon's Simple Email Service) to send emails. This is Amazon's enterprise email platform that enables reliable high-volume email delivery.
Adding a TXT Record to your domain marks Amazon SES as a verified sender of email on your domain. Without this record, you will not be able to send emails from agentOS using your custom address.
Send Only option - One change required:
1. TXT Record addition
This is the same TXT Record described above. It verifies Amazon SES as an authorised sender on your domain, allowing you to send emails from agentOS using your custom address.
Since incoming emails aren't routed through agentOS with Send Only, no MX Record change is needed.
Important considerations:
Domain hosting: agentOS does not host your domain at any point. After making these changes, your domain continues to be hosted by your chosen provider (such as Fasthosts, GoDaddy, 1&1, etc.).
Ongoing management: Day-to-day management of your domain remains with your IT administrator or yourself. You maintain full control.
Maintaining changes: The DNS record changes must remain in place for continued email functionality. Removing or modifying them will disrupt email delivery through agentOS.
Using a separate domain: If you already have a domain set up for business use, you may be better off using a different domain for use with agentOS. This prevents any conflicts with your existing email infrastructure.
