What is Calmony's AEOI tax self certification policy?

Every Calmony customer must confirm their tax residency details before opening an account, and again every year by 31st December.

Every Calmony customer must give us a tax self certification. New customers do this on the application form. Existing customers confirm in Calmony by 31st December 2026, then every year by 31st December. If you do not confirm, we suspend outgoing payments until you do.

Why do we ask for this?
Griffin Bank Ltd (FRN 970920) must report certain account information to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). This is required under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). Together these are known as the Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI). Calmony (FRN 850923) collects this information on behalf of Griffin Bank Ltd and Modulr FS Ltd.

What information do we collect?

  • Name and address
  • Every country where you are tax resident
  • Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) for each country, or a reason code
  • Date of birth, for individuals and sole traders
  • CRS business classification, for businesses

What are TIN reason codes?
Use a reason code only when a country needs a TIN and one does not exist.

  • A: your country does not issue TINs
  • B: you cannot get a TIN. You must tell us why
  • C: your country's law does not require a TIN
Not having your TIN to hand is not a valid reason. UK tax residents do not need a TIN, unless you are a sole trader with turnover over £90,000.
When do I need to Confirm?
  • Existing customers: by 31st December 2026
  • Every year after: by 31st December
  • If your tax residence changes: tell us within 30 days

What happens if I do not confirm?
If you have not confirmed by 31st December, or within 30 days of any other request, we will suspend outgoing payments. Payments restart once you confirm.

Can a Passive NFE open a Calmony account?
No. Calmony does not provide accounts to Passive Non Financial Entities (Passive NFEs), as defined by HMRC.

Who do we share your information with?
We share it with Griffin Bank Ltd and Modulr FS Ltd. They may share it with HMRC. HMRC may share it with tax authorities in other countries where you are tax resident, under international agreements.
