How do AML checks work via Credas?

Credas is the platform used to process AML checks. It runs a series of individual check types against each individual, and understanding what each check does helps you interpret results and respond appropriately.

Accessing Credas

Credas is accessed via https://portal.credas.co.uk/dashboard. The username is support@agentos.com. Once logged in, navigate to the Individuals tab — this is where all checks across all clients are collated. It is recommended to amend the filters on this page to show Submitted Checks only, as these are typically the only ones you need to view day-to-day. You can also use the Columns dropdown within the filters to remove irrelevant columns from your view.

To open a check, click into it from the Individuals tab and it will open in the existing tab.

Understanding the Check Screen

Each check screen contains several key elements:

  • The green box at the top displays the individual's details as recorded on their agentOS profile.
  • The red box is the Status dropdown, which determines the overall check status. This updates on agentOS when changed. You will only ever need to change this from Submitted to either Approved or Rejected.
  • The blue box in the top right allows you to export the check as a PDF — used when referring a check to a client.
  • The yellow box is an edit button, visible on most check types, and can be used to individually override a check.

Check Types Explained

Liveness Verification

When first completing a check, an individual is asked to take a photo of themselves. This is matched against their ID or Right to Rent document. Liveness Verification does not need to be reviewed frequently, but may need attention if it has failed. Common reasons for failure include:

  • Incorrect Pose — Credas may require the individual to cover a specific part of their face with their hand or finger. If this has not been done accurately, the check will fail and must be referred to the client.
  • Blurry image.
  • Duress — Credas may fail an image if it appears to have been taken under duress, for example if someone else is clearly holding the camera or appears to be behind the individual in the shot. If declined for this reason, the check must be referred to the client. The best advice for the individual is to take their own photo at face level using the front-facing camera on a mobile phone so they can see their own image clearly.

Important: Credas does not allow a liveness photo to be resubmitted. The client will either need to proceed with the check as provided alongside any external information they have gathered, or submit a new paid check on agentOS.

ID Verification

This is one of the most frequently referred check types. The individual is asked to photograph a piece of photo ID — such as a Provisional or Full UK Driver's Licence, passport, BRP, or alternative UK ID card. Failure reasons are guided by Credas' information panel and include:

  • Visual Analysis — Credas checks whether the ID appears valid and that the information looks correct. Note: this does not confirm whether the address is current, or whether the issuing date is the most recently issued document.
  • Facial Match — Checks whether the face on the ID matches the Liveness photo. Credas is generally generous here and accounts for changes in hair, facial scarring, and ageing. Failures are usually caused by blurry photos, very old ID photos, or a different person appearing in the Liveness photo. If this check fails, it must be referred to the client.
  • Name Check Result — Credas checks the name on the ID against the name on the check or on agentOS. For example, a company name such as "Jake's Amazing Spaces Ltd" will not match a personal passport. Similarly, if an individual uses a shortened version of their name (e.g. Mark instead of Jake Mark Dryburgh), the check will fail. When this occurs, ask the client to use the correct name going forward — the name on the check can be updated on agentOS after the check has been raised.
  • NFC — If the submitted document can be verified via NFC, an additional NFC category will appear. This is not essential, and a check can be passed if NFC is the only outstanding issue.

Standard Checks

Standard checks may or may not fail and will always need to be referred to the client if they do. They function as an enhanced proof of address, using means such as credit history and the electoral register. Note: Standard Checks do not provide any information about property ownership — see Proof of Ownership below.

When reviewing a Standard Check, the important factor is whether Credas has approved it (indicated by a green tick) or referred it (indicated by a yellow exclamation mark). Some failures may appear alongside passes — focus on Credas' overall determination rather than individual line items.

International Sanctions & PEP

PEP stands for Politically Exposed Person. This check verifies that the individual is not included on any international sanctions list and is not listed as a politically exposed person. It is not possible to outright fail this check, though parts of it may need to be referred to the client.

Credas may flag false matches — for example, a common name such as John Smith may match a PEP with the same name. Use common sense to eliminate clear false flags. If you are unsure, or unable to make a determination with a colleague, refer the check to the client.

Proof of Ownership

This check shows whether the individual is linked to the property listed on the check. In most cases, the result will either match or not match — if it does not match, it must be referred to the client.

Note: Credas will always refer a check to us if the property matches but is under joint ownership. In these cases, the check can be passed, though it is important to notify the client in case they were unaware of the joint ownership.

Credit Status

This is a check against an individual's credit status. It is not a credit check and will not provide a credit rating or score. Instead, it checks for insolvency, CCJs, and matching company director details. Any time Credas refers this check, it must be referred to the client.

Bank Account Check

This check functions as an enhanced Confirmation of Payee (CoP) check. In addition to verifying the bank name, it checks the current address registered to the account.

Important note: the address shown on this panel may differ from the address on the individual's agentOS profile. This is because Credas allows the individual to confirm an address before the check proceeds — it will usually autofill from a photo ID where one has been provided, but can be altered by the individual.

Right to Rent

Right to Rent checks are used to identify whether someone without full UK residency is permitted to stay. The check will either request mitigating photo ID or an approval number. For the most part, these checks will pass.

In most cases, a failure will need to be referred to the client. However, one thing to be aware of: if a full British passport is used for this check, Credas will still refer it — but this is a pass and does not need to be escalated.
