Can I have dual authorisation for payments with Calmony?
Overview on how to set up dual authorisation for minimum of two users with Calmony.
Dual Authorisation Payments
Dual authorisation adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second approval before payments are processed. This feature is ideal for businesses that need additional oversight on outgoing payments.
How It Works
When dual authorisation is enabled on a bank account, new payments are created in an "Awaiting Dual Authorisation" state rather than being processed immediately. These payments remain on hold until an authorised user reviews and approves or declines them.
Enabling Dual Authorisation
To enable dual authorisation on your account, contact the Calmony support team. We will configure the appropriate authoriser settings based on your requirements.
You can request one or two authorisers, giving you flexibility over who can approve payments within your organisation.
Managing Payments Awaiting Authorisation
Two new grids appear on the account once dual authorisation is enabled:
- Payments Awaiting Dual Authorisation – shows all payments pending approval
- Declined Dual Authorised Payments – shows payments that have been declined
Users whose access matches the bank account's authoriser settings can select multiple payments and choose to:
- Authorise – payments move to "Created – Awaiting Processing" and proceed through normal payment processing
- Decline – payments remain in the declined grid and will not be processed
Key Points
- Payments awaiting dual authorisation are not picked up by payment batches
- Payments are not created with your banking provider (Modulr/Griffin) until authorised
- Declined payments cannot be converted to fast payments and must be recreated if needed
- Only users with matching staff access can authorise or decline payments

Payment States
| State | Description |
|---|---|

| Created – Awaiting Processing | Payment authorised, will be processed in next batch run |
| Declined (in declined grid) | Payment rejected, cannot proceed to fast payment creation |
Processing Workflow
- User creates a payment on an account with dual authorisation enabled
- Payment enters "Awaiting Dual Authorisation" state
- Payment appears in the "Payments Awaiting Dual Authorisation" grid
- Authorised staff member reviews the payment
- If authorised: payment moves to "Created – Awaiting Processing" and follows standard processing
- If declined: payment moves to "Declined Dual Authorised Payments" grid
Troubleshooting
Payments not appearing in dual auth grid:
- Verify the Dual Payment Authoriser or Alternate Dual Payment Authoriser field is set on the bank account
User cannot authorise payments:
- Check that the user's staff access matches the authoriser setting on the bank account
Client wants to process a declined payment:
- Declined payments cannot be converted. The payment must be recreated from scratch
